On Saturday, August 9th I went fishing with three friends, Pat Oglesby, Dave Buchanan and John Trammell from Grand Junction. First we fished Tomichi Creek near Gunnison, Colorado. The water has kind of high and dirty. We did not do very well but it is a really beautiful river.
Here are a couple of pictures from the Tomichi. All photos by Pat Oglesby.

John Trammell fishing on the Tomichi.

After fishing on the Tomichi we drove to a very small stream that is a tributary of the Rio Grande River. It was so small I could step across it in many places. I tied on a size #14 Stimulator and started to fish. The very first fish that came up to my fly grabbed it and I set the hook. It was not big but it was my very first Rio Grande Cutthroat. I was so happy to catch a new trout species (one that my dad hasn't even caught!). Here are some of the pictures from that day and of the fish.

My First Rio Grande Cutthroat!

Here I am checking out a grasshopper. Hoppers are a great pattern to fish in the Summer.

We had a great day - you caught your first Rio Grande cut, it was the first fish on your new fly pattern, your first fish on your new rod and the first fish
you've caught out of that particular stream!
Congratulations!
Pat
