GRTU Troutfest

Come join me and GRTU chapter members and their families for a relaxing, fun-filled weekend on the shores of the Guadalupe. It's a chance for you and your kids to learn more about trout and trout fishing in a scenic, relaxed setting, with lots of free activities for the whole family. You'll also have the chance to bid on some great items in the silent auction, with the proceeds going to fund the chapter's youth education and conservation projects. So join us on the Guad for a wonderful weekend.

The U S Youth Fly Fishing Team is tentatively planning a clinic  in Colorado May 14 - 15 on the South Platte ("The Dream Stream" River at the Hartsel Spring Ranch.  The clinic will be hosted by Dave Pehle, Co-Director of the America Cup. Instructors include Dave Pehle, and Ron Kolanda from the US Fly Fishing Team.


Teva Mountain Games - Maui JimTwo Fly X-Stream

The Teva Mountain Games Maui Jim 2 Fly X-Stream Fishing Competition (“2 Fly X-Stream”) will start with casting.  Each angler will attempt casts at targets for accuracy as well as a judged distance cast.  The top twenty men and the top five women will then move to the bridge over Gore Creek itself and again cast for accuracy.  The top ten men and the top two women will move on to the Finals!  The Finals will consist of a timed float trip on a TBD river with two competitors per boat.  Anglers will only be able to use two patterns.  One pattern, two different sizes?  One dry pattern, one dropper pattern?  Finalists make this call.  Total of six flies.  Minimum, and maximum, of two patterns.  Total points, based on fish count and size, will win the Grand Prize.  There will also be prizes for the second and third place finishers.  Another cash prize will be awarded to the angler, man or woman, who lands and releases the largest fish!  A maximum of 80 anglers will compete in the casting qualifier, 25 make it to the semi-finals, and 10 make it to the boats.

THE AMERICA CUP INTERNATIONAL FLY FISHING TOURNAMENT
The America Cup is a 5-person 16-team, catch and release, fly fishing event. In past years we have hosted international teams from Poland, Ireland, Hungary, Japan and Australia as well as US Teams including USA Youth Fly Fishing Team, Colorado Youth Team, Team North Carolina, Team Wyoming, Team Stonefly and Team USA, to name a few. Bred Befus is returning to coach the Colorado Youth Team, which includes, son Tyler. Youth focused competition is vital for the growth of the sport, and is of great importance to The America Cup. An adaptive Team that includes Para-Olympian Sarah Will, Tred Barta from Versus Television and Canadian Lawrence Euteneier of theblindfishingboat.com, are scheduled to compete again in 2011.
We are the 3rd largest Fips-Mouche style fly fishing tournament in the world with 80 Anglers competing for 3 days. The America Cup promotes aquatic nuisance species awareness, fly fishing, tourism, resource protection/stabilization and international good will.


2012 GRTU Troutfest
Saturday, February 25th 9am-5pm Texas Hill Country Casting Games (casting game area) -hosted by the Austin Fly Fishers Casting Games were a great addition to Troutfest last year . These games present opportunities for both the experienced and beginner as they progress through five different casting challenges encountered in the Texas Hill Country. Two kinds of participation are offered. Individuals can compete with other participants. The prize for best score will be a TFO rod of your choice. A $10 donation to GRTU is required to enter the competition portion of this event. Individuals will also be encouraged to use the course for free to improve their casting as they learn the games. Loaner rods will be available for use by participants in the games. 9am-10am “An Overview of the Guadalupe River Rainbow Trout Fishery” (meeting hall) TPWD District Fisheries Biologist, Magnelia will discuss the state of the rainbow trout fishery in the Guadalupe River and some of the research the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is conducting on the river. 9am-10am “Fishing Casts” (on the water casting area) Guide/author Pat Dorsey will demonstrate some of favorite casts that he uses and he has perfected during his 20+ years of guiding. 9am-10am Kids Fly Casting Clinic (casting area) Certified Federation of Fly Fishers- Casting Instructors, Jim Bass and Gary Davison with the assistance of Tyler Befus, will teach a youth fly casting clinic. 9am-10am “Competative Fly Fishing and Fly Casting” (Tent B) Noah Thompson will discuss competitive flyfishing and he will cover the basic framework of how competitive flyfishing is structured, as well as what it takes to excel on a world level. Noah will give a brief over view of his experience participating on the US Youth Fly-Fishing Team, how it's improved many aspects of his game, competitive techniques, and what the game is all about. 2012 America Cup International Fly Fishing Competition
The America Cup International Fly Fishing Tournament is pleased to invite you to one of the best fly fishing venues in the United States. Held in the uber mountain town of Vail, Colorado in Eagle County USA. September 20-23, 2012. This is a 5 person team event, based on FIPS Mouche rules. Beats will be set on each river with Controllers. We are including two Loch Style venues this year - boat rules. A valid Colorado fishing license is needed to compete which needs to be purchased by each Competitor. The America Cup Trophy will be given to the winning team and winning individual. There will be medals awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams and individuals. Awards party in Vail is open to all!
